Wow I can not believe I have already been here for twoyears! Time really flies when you have fun... If Im going to sum up my twoyears here this will be a loooong post... haha
But I’ll start from the beginning and will go through a fewmemories J
To start off with I want to add that this was a sudden decisionfor me! I finished School 2010 in June and worked 60h a week with two jobs thatsummer, and in the end of August I had a trip planned with a very good friendof mine to Magaluf. And it was only a week before that, when I finished work, Istarted to panic and didn’t knew what I wanted to do. So I saw the opportunityto be an AuPair and added my profile on a website where you could find familiesand they could find you. I found one and we agreed that I would come over tothem in September. So it was all sudden and I hardly had time to come home fromMagaluf till I was going to travel again! All my family was pretty chocked andI didn’t even had time for a good bye party... But I was only planning onstaying a year anyway... haha
So I packed 2 suitcases, one with clothes and one with shoes(!), and left. My first time ever flying by myself and I was doing to acompletely unfamiliar family who was going to meet me at the airport. As I didn’tgo through an agency everything could have gone wrong! But it didn’t, I gotthere on time, they picked me up and a new life started.
I met up with a few other aupairs found on a website and Ihad no idea that it would lead to a long term friendship with the first peopleI met. I did also meet two other people in a pub, two blond, beautiful womenspeaking a foreign language. I walked a bit closer and guess what?! They spokeSwedish! But they were a bit bitchy and snobby, but we invited them into outgang who were going out that night. And oh what a night! All of the people thatnight ended up being our gang as AuPairs and we have had so much fun together. They are all so close friends even though we live so far apart, and all thememories.. Wow all the memories.. Some are not suited for a blog haha
The memories include all the gym visits, cute instructorsand Brown Bag visits as well as Gig House party nights... Not to talk aboutnights out in Reading at Walkabout! Probably the most pikey place in Reading, but what did we know? We just arrived there and it was cheap as hell. So thereit was, some red tongues, WKD blue and £1 shots... to summarize all our nightsout haha
And then not to forget the dancing on the tables, rugbyshirts, Irish leprechauns and ginger beard... Mixed with a local pub and JaegerBombs!
But my family wasn’t the best in the end, as I started to goout after a month almost every weekend and meeting up with friends (as younormally do as an AuPair, you are free at the weekends!), but the familystarted to ban me from that, took the car away from me in the evenings andweekends... So I ended up sitting home alone when they were out or babysittingand taking the kids to the park without getting paid for it. Not to mentionlistening to the AuPair dad talking about ex girlsfriends and the male sexdriveand that if a man doesn’t get sex from a woman he will go to someone else (wewere home alone then and it was a bit creapy..)? I can tell you the AuPairthing didn’t last for long, as I am not the person you can mess around with andtalk to like that... So I told them I could not stay there anymore and that theAupair thing didn’t work out for me after 6 month, and then they kicked me outand gave me 1 day to pack and find a new place, wow jees, Thanks!
Oh well, life goes on and stuff happens for a reason, so oneof my newly found best friends aupair family had a spare room and let me stayat their place while I was looking for a job. I owe them so much and they arealways going to be in my heart, they were the one saving me and helping mestart a new life. To take someone in like that without hesitation is a bigthing to do and they are gold worth for me now.
But to continue, I got a job, actually I got three jobs! ButI had to turn one down, and kept two. As I had heard it was hard getting a jobin England I was very happy I got two and did not wanted to give any of the,up. So I bought a bike as I could not afford a car, and started one of thetoughest and most exhausted times of my life. As my first job started at 06.00 am I had towake up 04.30am to get dressed, eat and then start to cycle at 05.00am (1 hourcycle, quite nice in the morning actually) and then I worked till 11.00 am.Then I cycled for half an hour and started my second job at 12.00 and worked 8hours till 20.00, sometimes 21.00 depending on when they allowed us to go home.To then cycle home and arrive at aprox. 22.00 to eat, sleep and go up 04.30...I was so tired! But I only did it for a month and a bit J
Then I got another job, so I went home to Sweden over Easter2012 and on the airport on the way back to UK I got a call... I did not haveany job now, nothing at all. Because I quite my 2 jobs when I got a proper one,but they were such a unprofessional company that all their employees didn’t haveany notice period. So they promised me a job and sent a contract, then decidedthat the position wasn’t necessary... Yay! So I stood there without anything, only a place to live. No savings as I used it all when I was an AuPair becauseI hated so be in the house, and when I was living at my friends AuPair familyas they still wanted rent and money for food (fair enough). There was quite afew rough days, but then I got another job 2 hours away on the train... So everyday I commuted 4 hours on the train and earned some money till I had enough tobuy a car. Then it only took me 1 hour there and 1 hour back. It was a suckycompany but one of the best times I ever had because of the people workingthere! So many nights out, pub rounds over lunchtime and the people there wasthe best. Some memories from there was five and lime, free drinks, shit loadsof shot, superwoman costume and normally 2 days hangovers...Too bad it was thatfar away, so I only stayed there for 6 month till I got another job very closeto where I live now (15 min walk, brill!) and thats it where I am now!
So much happened during these two years, and I do not regreta thing. England is a lovely country with very cheap alcohol and clothes, amazing people and a friendly atmosphere. Sure they could lower the rent andget better weather and maybe some snow over the winter that won’t cause mayhem. Some of my travels while Ive been here was Paris, Glasgow, Dublin, Sweden (ofcourse!), America (Las Vegas, Hollywood and LA), and now coming up Menorca andsoon New York... It has been the time of my life and even though I miss myfamily and friends, this is the place I want to be at the moment. I neverthought that I would move out from Sweden and get this kind of job I have now.I could never have got this in Sweden without qualifications or Uni, but now Ihave a tremendous thing to put on my CV and my life just keeps on gettingbetter.
